In 2019, Oregon began moving away from a highly modified code to a new, quicker adoption cycle using the latest version of ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1. The State will see multiple benefits from this move. For designers, the format of the new code requires some changes to design documents. With a quicker adoption cycle, designers can look for a new code within one year of the release of the latest 90.1, which means another code update for energy in late 2020.
Mr. Heizer received his Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a registered mechanical engineer.

Join Portland Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Tuesday, February 11th at 5:30 PM for a presentation on the transition to the 2019 Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC) by VALAR Consulting Engineering LLC. Topics include:
- The primary structural and some non-structural changes, along with their fiscal impact on projects
- Tall wood buildings
- Fire treatment requirements in wood
- Proposed lower wind speeds for the region
- General seismic upgrade requirements for existing buildings.
